1 dime = 10 cents
1 quarter = 25 cents

$4.90 = 490 cents

let q = quaters
let d = dimes

d + q = 40  ----- equation 1
10d + 25q = 490 ----- equation 2

10d+ 10q = 400 ---- equation 1 multiplied by 10
10d + 25q = 490 ---- equation 2 multiplied by 1

-15q = -90
q = 90/15
q = 6

plug q into any one of the equations

d + q = 40
d + 6 = 40
d = 40 - 6
d = 34

34 dimes and 6 quaters

If the probability of a hurricane hitting the gulf coast in any given year is 1/5, what is the probability of the gulf coast get
Ksenya-84 [330]

Answer:

A. \frac{1}{125}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Probability of a hurricane hitting the gulf coast in a year is \frac{1}{5}

Let E be the event for the hurricane hitting the gulf coast in a year.

So, P(E)=\frac{1}{5}

Therefore, probability of hitting the gulf coast for 3 consecutive years will be the product of the probabilities for each  year and is given as:

P(E\cap E\cap E)=\frac{1}{5} \times \frac{1}{5}\times \frac{1}{5} =\frac{1}{125}

The probability of the gulf coast getting hit by a hurricane in 3 consecutive years is \frac{1}{125}.
