To find the surface area, we must first find the area of all of the faces and then add them together. 
Because every face is the same size, the formula will be:
6(8 x 8)

6 represents the number of faces and 8 x 8 represents the formula to find the area of each. 

6(8 x 8) = 
6(64) = 
384

The surface area of the cube is 384 square inches.
