The characteristics of fingerprints are loops, whorls and arch.

The fingerprints are patterns present on the tips of people are formed by friction ridges. The forensic scientists use fingerprints to identify people. They are never same in two people, not even in case of identical twins. The only way to remove or change fingerprints is to inflict permanent scarring on them.

They have three characteristics:

  • Loops: They start from one side and end on another. In the middle, they either curve around or move upward.
  • Whorls: They are circular/spherical patterns
  • Arches: They are in shape of narrow mountains sloping upward and then downward
