Use the Pythagorean theorem. We have legs with lengths of 15 and 20 miles, now let's solve for the hypotenuse.

a=15
b=20
c=?

a^2+b^2=c^2
15^2+20^2=c^2
c^2=400+225=625
c=25

Your answer is 25 miles. Hope this helps! :)

Find the equation of the line normal to the curve of y=cos1/3x, where x=pi
miv72 [106K]

Answer:

The equation of the line normal to the curve of y=cos1/3x, where x=pi is y= 2√3 x - 10.38

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of the normal to the curve is

Y- y1 = - 1/m (x- x1)

Where m is the gradient.

See attached picture for the complete solution.

Given the graph below, which of the following statements is true?
Nesterboy [21]

To be a function, it has to pass the vertical line test, which means a vertical line drawn anywhere in the graph should cut the graph only once, not more.

To be a one-to-one function, it has to pass the vertical line test as well as the horizontal line test, which means that a horizontal line drawn anywhere in the graph should cut the graph only once, not more.

<em>Of course, it passes the vertical line test, so its a function. </em>

<em>Does it pass the horizontal line test? </em><em>NO! </em><em>As shown in the attached picture, the blue line (horizontal line) cuts the graph at 3 places. We therefore eliminate choices A and B. We can eliminate choice C because nowhere is it required a function to pass through the origin for it to be one-to-one. Hence, the answer is D (blue line shows this).</em>

<em>ANSWER: D</em>

5. It is given that -2,4, a, b and care five consecutive terms of a geometric progression. Find the value of c.
vlada-n [284]

Answer:

c = - 32

Step-by-step explanation:

The common ratio r of the sequence is

r = \frac{a_{2} }{a_{1} } = \frac{4}{-2} = - 2

To find the next term in the sequence multiply the previous term by r

a = 4 × - 2 = - 8

b = - 8 × - 2 = 16

c = 16 × - 2 = - 32

Which expression is equivalent to 2.2 − 0.5(0.6x − 1.8) ?
yawa3891 [41]

Answer:

D is equivalent to the expression.

Step-by-step explanation:

The expression that is given equals 2.8, or 2.8x.

A. This expression equals 1.6x, and 1.6x is not equivalent to 2.8x

B. 0.3x + 3.1 = 3.4x. This doesn't have the answer of 2.8x.

C. 1.3 - 0.3x = 1 or x.

D. 3.1 - 0.3x = 2.8x. D is the answer.
