Bush received more electoral votes than Al Gore.

Because of the way the election system is organized in the United States, it can happen that a certain presidential candidate wins the popular vote and still loose the election in the electoral vote. That was the case with Al gore and George Bush in 2000. This had nonly happened 3 times before Bush and Gore, in 1824 John Quincy Adams, in 1876 Rutherford B. Hayes, and in 1888 Benjamin Harrison, it happened again in 2016 in the Trump evs Hillary election.
