The solution for the given equations  x + 3y = 5 and x - 3y = -1 are x=2 and y=1.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given is,

           x+3y=5......................................(1)

           x-3y=-1....................................(2)

Step:1

         By elimination method,

        Subtracting Equations (1) and (2),

                     x+3y=5

                     x-3y=-1

             ( - )

           ( x-x ) + ( 3y+3y ) = ( 5 +1 )

                                       6y = 6

                                         y = 1

Step:2

        Substitute the value of y in equation (1),

                             x+3y=5

                       x + ( 3 × 1 ) = 5

                                      x = 5-3

                                      x = 2

Step:3

        Check for Solution,

        Substitute the values of x and y in Eqn (1),

                                  x+3y=5

                           2 + ( 3 × 1 ) = 5

                                         5 = 5

Result:

       The solution for the given equations  x + 3y = 5 and x - 3y = -1 are x=2 and y=1, by elimination method.

If Jane's shirt cost 20$, but she has a 15% off coupon, what is her cost before tax
alina1380 [7]

Answer:

17

Step-by-step explanation:

The discount on the shirt is 15%

Discount = price* discount rate

               = 20 * 15%

               = 20 * .15

                =3

The new price is the previous price minus the discount

new price = 20-3

new price = 17

Vadim26 [7]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

(x₁, y₁) = (-2 , -5)   & (x₂ , y₂) = (-3 , 1)

Midpoint = (\frac{x_{1}+x_{2}}{2},\frac{y_{1}+y_{2}}{2})

          =(\frac{-2 + [-3]}{2} ,\frac{-5 + 1}{2})\\\\\\=(\frac{-5}{2} , \frac{-4}{2})\\\\=(-2.5, -2)

If one kg. of potatoes costs $4.99, what would 1.8 kg cost?
lina2011 [118]
You can use the proportion.
$4.99 / 1 kg = x / 1.8 kg
x = ($4.99 * 1.8 kg) / 1 kg
x = $8.98

Therefore, in 1.8 kg of potatoes, it costs at $8.98
