Dopamine is the brain's "pleasure" neurotransmitter. It is released during normal pleasurable activities: sex, food, having fun, etc. Most illicit drugs feel pleasurable because they increase the release of dopamine throughout the brain's pleasure centers. This, falsely, feels good and tells the mind and body that it's good for you since it's pleasurable.
