Answer:

“Putting her sewing aside" is a participial phrase.

Explanation:

Participle is the form of verb which is like ‘verb + ing’. In any given sentence, a participle can be either used as adverbs or as adjectives. “Putting her sewing aside” is a participle phrase as the verb form is “put + ing”. It is being used as an ‘adverb’ here as it is describing “how” was the sewing put. Answer is ‘i was put aside’.

Infinitive is a form of verb which looks like ‘to + verb’. So, it is not an infinitive. The italicised portion is not a verb phrase as well.

sergey [27]

Word that means adapted for both land and water

D) amphibious

Explanation:

The reason of this etymology of how the word is construed is given in the passage itself.

The word root amphi- means both and –bious means mode of life.

These two roots combine to form the word that is given here and it is pretty clear to see that these two roots combined will mean something along the lines of both modes of life.

The two modes of life being described here are life in see and life on earth.

So, the meaning of the phrase comes with the word Amphibious.
