The numbers:  x, y
x·y=-14
x+y=5    ⇒    y=5-x
Substitute y in the first equation by y from second one
x·(5-x)=-14
5x-x²=-14
-x²+5x+14=0
-x²-2x+7x+14=0
-x(x+2)+7(x+2)=0
(x+2)(-x+7)=0
Product is 0 if one of factors is 0
x+2=0      or        -x+7=0
x=-2         or         -x=-7
x=-2         or           x=7
Now back to the equation y=5-x
y=5-(-2)    or     y=5-7
y=7           or     y=-2

The numbers are -2 and 7

If it takes one minute to run 130 meters how long will it take to run 1494.23 meters
Rus_ich [418]
We have to see how many times 130 fits into 1494.23:

1494.23/130=11.4940....

So now we have to multiply this by the amount of time needed for 130 meters:
11.4940*1=11.4940.

So the answer is 11.4940 minutes.

Aliun [14]

Answer:

Consider a circle centered at C(-2,-4). If the point P(1,-1) lies on the circle, then which of the following points also lies on the circle?

A. (-2, -√18)

B. (-2+√18, -4)

C. (√18, -4)

D. (-2, 4+√18)

Step-by-step explanation:

  • If the distance is greater than the radius, the point lies outside. If it's equal to the radius, the point lies on the circle. And if it's less than the radius, you guessed it right, the point will lie inside the circle.

An electrician charges $40 per visit, and $20 per hour of work. On a particular day, he made 3 visits and calculated that his av
saw5 [17]

Answer:

  4 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

For three visits, the electrician earned $40 × 3 = $120 in "per-visit" charges. For working x hours, he earned 20x in "per-hour" charges. The total of these came to 50x:

  120 +20x = 50x

  120 = 30x . . . . . . . . subtract 20x

  4 = x . . . . . . . . . . . . . divide by 30

The electrician worked 4 hours that day.

THE vertices of a triangle are P(-1,3), Q(2,-1), and R(5,3) choose all the congruent sides of the triangle
Ratling [72]

Answer:

PQ and QR are congruent.

Step-by-step explanation:

The length of PQ = sqrt [(2 - -1)^2 + (-1 - 3)^2]

= sqrt 25

= 5 units.

QR = sqrt [(5-2)^2 + (3 - -1)^2) ]

= sqrt 25

= 5 units.

PR =  sqrt [ ( 3-3^2 + (5- -1)^2]

= sqrt 36

= 6 units.
