The soft shell turtle is not round its flat the flatness and softness of its shell helps it hide under the sand from predators like egrets. When the egret is walking and the turtle hides under the sand when it steps on the shell its soft like the sand so there is no conspiracy then the egret keeps searching. This feature also works for humans when they are hunting soft shell turtles for food or for exotic pet trades.
