( 6 + x)(9 + x) =88

54 + 15x + x^2 = 88

x^2 + 15x - 34 = 0

(x + 17)(x - 2) = 0
using zero product property:-
x + 17 =  0  or x - 2 = 0    giving:-

x = -17 , x = 2

x is the amount that the length and width are increased by.

x = -17 is negative and doesn't make sense in this context  and can be ignored; so the amount of increase is  2 feet.

algol [13]
2,000 (A-5) = 110,000
2,000A - 10,000 = 110,000
2,000A = 110,000 + 10,000
2,000A = 120,000

7.3(x+3.1)-2.71(3x-4.9)
marusya05 [52]

Answer:

7.3(x+3.1)-2.71(3x-4.9) = - 0.8x+ 35.909

Step-by-step explanation:

We want to simplify:

7.3(x+3.1)-2.71(3x-4.9)

We use the distributive property to expand the parenthesis to obtain:

7.3(x+3.1)-2.71(3x-4.9) = 7.3x + 22.63 - 8.13x + 13.279

We group like terms on the right:

7.3(x+3.1)-2.71(3x-4.9) = 7.3x - 8.13x + 22.63  + 13.279

This finally gives us:

7.3(x+3.1)-2.71(3x-4.9) = - 0.8x+ 35.909

The length of a rectangle is 4yd longer than it’s with. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 68yd, find it’s length and width.
Tom [10]

Answer:

L = 19 yd

W = 15 yd

Step-by-step explanation:

2L + 2W = 68

L = W + 4

Substitute for L in the first equation

2(W + 4) + 2W = 68

2W + 8 + 2W = 68

4W = 60

W = 15 yd

Plug W in the second equation to find L

L = W + 4

L = 15 + 4

L = 19 yd

Plug both answers in both equations to check

First equation = 2 (19) + 2 (15) = 68

Second equation = 19 = 15 + 4

Hope that helps!
