Hello! Originally, the media was intended to be a watchdog for the citizens when the 1st Amendment came out (allowing freedom of press), and they continue to be. They go behind the scenes, and inform the public on everything to ensure the government isn't keeping any bad secrets from the citizens, and that they aren't taking too much power from the people.
