A rectangular piece of sheet metal has a length that is 88 in. less than twice the width. A square piece 44 in. on a side is cut

from each corner. The sides are then turned up to form an uncovered box of volume 968968 in. cubed. Find the length and width of the original piece of metal.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let L and b be the Length and breadth of Rectangular Piece of sheet metal

also L=2b-88

Square piece of 44 in. is cut from each corner

thus New length of cuboid is L'=L-2\times 44

Breadth of Cuboid b=b-2\times 44

Height of breadth is h=44 in.

Volume of Cuboid V=968968

V=\left ( L-2\cdot 44\right )\cdot \left ( b-2\cdot 44\right )\cdot \left ( 44\right )=968968

substitute the value of L i n volume

V=\left ( 2b-88-88\right )\left ( b-88\right )=22022

\left ( b-88\right )\left ( b-88\right )=11011

\left ( b-88\right )^2=11011

\left ( b-88\right )=\sqrt{11011}

b-88=104.93

b=192.93 in.

L=297.86 in.

Dominique can ice cupcakes twice as fast as Houston. When they work together, Dominique and Houston can ice a large order of cup
olganol [36]
This is a work problem. It can be solved as follows:

Houston = 1/x
Dominique = (1/2x)
Together = 1/5

Then, we add Houston and Dominique:

1/x + 1/2x = 1/5

Solve for x,

x = 2/15

Therefore, it would take 15/2 hours for Houston to ice by himself, the last option.

Factor 1/8 out of 1/8x-49/8
svetoff [14.1K]

Answer:

1/8(x - 49)

Step-by-step explanation:

When we factor out something, we are basically finding common factors from multiple terms to take out. Example:

ab + ac; factored out: a(b + c)

If we want to factor out 1/8 from 1/8x - 49/8, we simply divide the two terms by 1/8.

\frac{1/8}{1/8x} The 1/8 cancel out giving us x so:

1/8(x - __)

The next term,

\frac{49/8}{1/8}

When two fractions divide, you flip the bottom one and multiply them both,

\frac{49}{8} *\frac{8}{1}

giving us 49.

The answer is: 1/8(x - 49)
