If you add together all of the forces acting on an object, the sum is called the <em>NET FORCE</em> on the object.

It might or might not be zero.  If it's NOT zero, then you know immediately that the object must be accelerating ... either its speed, or its direction, or both are changing.

A parallel-plate capacitor is charged and then is disconnected from the battery. By what factor does the stored energy change wh
andrew-mc [135]

Answer:

0.5

Explanation:

The energy of a charged capacitor is given by \frac{1}{2}QC where Q is the charge on it and C is its capacitance. The capacitance is defined, geometrically, as

\dfrac{\epsilon A}{d}

where \epsilon is a constant that is determined by the material between the plates, A is the area of the plates and d is the distance between them. It is then that the capacitance is linearly inversely proportional to the separation distance; as the distance increases, the capacitance reduces.

Because it is linear, when the separation distance is doubled, other factors remaining constant, the capacitance is halved. Because the capacitance is halved, the energy is halved.

Let's see the mathematics.

Initial capacitance, C_1 at initial separation, d_1

C_1=\dfrac{\epsilon A}{d_1}

If separation is doubled, separation becomes d_2=2d_1. Then the capacitance becomes

C_2=\dfrac{\epsilon A}{d_2}

C_2=\dfrac{\epsilon A}{2d_1}

C_2=0.5\dfrac{\epsilon A}{d_1}

C_2=0.5C_1

Initial energy, E_1=\frac{1}{2}QC_1

Final energy, E_2=\frac{1}{2}QC_2= \frac{1}{2}Q\times0.5C_1

E_2=0.5\times\frac{1}{2}QC_1=0.5E_1

Hence, \frac{E_2}{E_1}=0.5

The fact that some asteroids cluster in what are called asteroid families is probably the result of:
alisha [4.7K]

Answer:

The families are thought to form as a result of collisions between asteroids. In many or most cases the parent body was shattered, but there are also several families which resulted from a large cratering event which did not disrupt the parent body (e.g. the Vesta, Pallas, Hygiea, and Massalia families).

A Ray of light in air is incident on an air to glass boundary at an angle of 30. degrees with the normal. If the index of refrac
elena55 [62]

Answer:

A

Explanation:

Snell's law states:

n₁ sin θ₁ = n₂ sin θ₂

where n is the index of refraction and θ is the angle of incidence (relative to the normal).

The index of refraction of air is approximately 1.  So:

1 sin 30° = 1.52 sin θ

θ ≈ 19°

A boy at a football field practice kicked a 0.500-kg ball with a force of 100N. How fast will the ball move after reaching a dis
Tpy6a [65]

Answer:

v(7) = 52.915 m/s

Explanation:

First, find the value for acceleration.

F = ma

100 = .5 * a

a = 200 m/s²

Next find the velocity at x = 7 using kinematic equations.

v² = v₀² + 2a(Δx)

v² = (0)² + 2(200)(7)

v = \sqrt{2800}

v = 52.915 m/s

Which one of the following types of training involves 10 to 30 minutes of high-intensity exercise?
Goshia [24]

Correct answer choice is:

C. Medium range

Explanation:

Medium range exercises are used to gain extra strength and fitness. Usually, heavyweights are used with less number of repetitions. These sort of exercises are mostly the hardest t do. All you need is to have a high level of motivation and stamina, which can be gained by running or cycling.
