The atomic radii of a divalent cation and a monovalent anion are 0.62 nm and 0.121 nm, respectively. (a) Calculate the force of
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

\boxed{8.4\times 10^{-10} \text{ N}}

Explanation:

The formula for the force exerted between two ions is

F = \dfrac{kq_{1}q_{2}}{r^{2}} = \dfrac{kz_{1}z_{2}e^{2}}{r^{2}}

where the Coulomb constant

k = 8.988 × 10⁹ N·m·C⁻²

Data:

z₁ = +2; r₁ = 0.62    nm

z₂ =  -1;  r₂ = 0.121 nm

Calculations:

r = r₁ + r₂ = 0.62 + 0.121 = 0.741 nm

F =\dfrac{8.988 \times 10^{9} \text{ N $\cdot$ m$^{2} \cdot$ C$^{-2}$} \times 2 \times (-1) \times ( 1.602 \times 10^{-19} \text{ C})^{2}}{(0.741 \times 10^{-9} \text{ m})^{2}}\\\\ = -\mathbf{8.4\times 10^{-10}} \textbf{ N}\\\text{The attractive force between the ions is } \boxed{\mathbf{8.4\times 10^{-10}} \textbf{ N}}

For which one of the following reactions is the value of ΔH°rxn equal to ΔH°f for the product?
noname [10]

Answer:

The reaction D has the value of ΔH°rxn equal to ΔH°f for the product.

Explanation:

The ΔH°f for product is equal to ΔH°rxn when the reagents are in their elemental state (ΔH°f = 0) and form one mole of product.

We have to find the reagents that are in their elemental state and that only form one mole of product:

A) 2Ca (s) + O₂ (g) → 2CaO (s)

The reagents are in their elemental state but the reaction forms two mole of product.

B) C₂H₂ (g) + H₂ (g) → C₂H₄ (g)

C₂H₂ (g) is not in its elemental state.

C) 2C (graphite) + O₂ (g) → 2CO (g)

Graphite and Oxygen are in their elemental state but the reaction forms two mole of product.

D) 3Mg (s) + N₂ (g) → Mg₃N₂ (s)

Magnesium and Nytrogen are in their elemental state and the reaction forms one mole of product.

E) C (diamond) + O₂ (g) → CO₂ (g)

Diamond is not in its elemental state.

Answer:

B. Extreme heat and pressure.....

Explanation:

This is how sedimentary rocks are actually made. I had learned recently in my class about these rocks, and my teacher told that these are made by heat and pressure. And these are the types of rocks that you'll find in canyons for example Grand Canyon.

You know that when something gets pressurized then it changes shape, same for rocks, if they're having lots of pressure on them, then they will also basically turn into newer rocks and also change shape. They also change looks because sedimentary rocks don't look like any other type of rock.

Also, heat can also be found in the crust of the earth since there is the Mantle under the crust which is filled up of MAGMA! (supa hot magma!! woohoo!) And also, because all of the dirt and stuff underground is packed together, the friction can also create heat. As you know, heat makes things expand, you might have done this before.... when you learned about hot and cold gas, you might have also learned that hot gases are more larger, and require more volume than cold gas. That means that the size of the object changes, that too, it's not just for gas, it's for everything, <em>including rocks!</em>.

Hence, your answer is B. Extreme heat and pressure from inside the earths surface......

Hydrogenation (H2/Pd-C) of 3,4-dimethyl-3-hexene (3,4-dimethyl hex-3-ene) would be expected to form A) an enantiomeric pair for
NeTakaya

Answer:

D) will not form any stereoisomers since the product is a saturated hydrocarbon.

Explanation:

Stereoisomerism, or spatial isomerism,refers to a type of isomerism in which  two or more molecules have the same molecular formula and atom to atom connectivity but different three-dimensional orientations of those atoms in space.

Stereoisomerism occurs in alkenes because free rotation about the C=C bond is hindered. Thus, the molecule is "locked" in a particular orientation. In a saturated alkane, there is unrestricted free rotation about the C-C bond hence straight chain alkanes do not have steroisomers.

The product formed is 3,4-dimethyl hexane which is a straight chain saturated alkane. This compound does not exhibit stereoisomerism.
