Which of the following is true about the properties of aqueous solutions?

Biology
1 answer:
Setler79 [48]3 years ago

Answer: d. Hydrogen bonds forma readily in aqueous solutions.

Explanation: pH is a logarithmic scale which means that a change of 1 unit on it equlas a change of 1 order of magnitude (1, 10, 100 etc)in the concentration of [H+] or [OH-] depending on if we are talking of pH or pOH. So a its not correct. And b is not correct either because when pH decrease, H+ concentration increase.

On the other hand, water is a dipolar molecule so it has negative and positive charge and dissolves easily charged molecules. This difference in charge occurs because oxygen atoms have free electrons arround that make them negative and hydrogen atoms give electrons so they remain positive. Taking into account that opposite charges attract each other, the positive hydrogen of one molecule stay closer to oxygen of other because of charge affinity. Thats haw hydrogen bonds are formed and water facilitated them.

Rotenone, a toxic compound isolated from plants, strongly inhibits the transfer of electrons from iron-sulfur centers in Complex
Darya [45]

Answer:

(A) It prevents electron flow from the iron-sulfur centers in complex 1 to the ubiquinone. Due to reduction in electron transfer rate, there is a decrease in the production of ATP which is dangerous for some insects and fish over time.

(B) It also prevents electron flow from cytochrome b to cytochrome c1 at the complex III which leads to QH2 accumulation. If oxidized Q is not present, these is alteration of electron flow and the production of ATP is altered.

(C) Rotenone only prevent electron transfer into the chain at Complex 1  but it does not affect electron transfer at Complex II. Although there is slow ETC, it does not stop completely. However, Antimycin A prevents the oxidation of QH2, the final electron acceptor crom complex I and complex II. Thereby, stopping the production of both ETC and ATP. It can be concluded that antimycin A is a more potent poison.

Explanation:

Rotenone prevents electron flow from the iron-sulfur centers in complex 1 to the ubiquinone. Due to a reduction in electron transfer rate, there is a decrease in the production of ATP which is dangerous for some insects and fish over time. Antimycin A also prevents electron flow from cytochrome b to cytochrome c1 at the complex III which leads to QH2 accumulation. If oxidized Q is not present, there is an alteration of electron flow and the production of ATP is altered. Antimycin A is more potent than rotenone.

Zielflug [23.3K]

Answer:

The correct option is;

Glaciers that once covered South Africa have melted and can no longer form.

Explanation:

The Karoo Supergroup that formed hundres of millions of year ago covered the most part of South Africa. The Tillite debris from melting glaciers, in Dwyka Tillite are located at the bottom layers of the Karoo Supergroup, which is an indication that millions of years ago, South Africa was under extensive glacier coverage formed during the movement of the continent past the South Pole

The eventual arrival of the continent to temperate regions away from the South Pole resulted in the melting of the glaciers from which a huge swamp was formed.
