The correct is D) to oversee the fur trade with the Indians.

The Dutch sent families to settle in America to oversee the fur trade with the Indians.

The Dutch established its presence in the Americas in the Hudson River Valley from 1609 to 1664, in what the called New Netherlands. They established trading posts and forts along the Hudson River. Those places are what today is Albany and New York City, that originally was known as New Amsterdam. They sent families to settle in America to oversee the fur trade with the Indians.

I believe the answer is A) To begin an experiment in religious freedom. The Dutch first came to the Americas with the Pilgrims. They were known as the Strangers. They had originally moved to the Netherlands from England for religious freedom, but moved to the Americas because they were afraid their children were not remembering their English heritage and were becoming to much like native Dutch.
Hope this helps! Please let me know if I'm wrong :)

Perhaps the people discussed here also used these names several hundred years earlier. Archeologists believe the Teyas and Escanjaques are descendants of the people discussed on these pages.
