Answer:

2.64 seconds

Step-by-step explanation:

To find when the ball will hit the ground, you just need to use the equation of h with the value h = 0 (the ball is in the ground), and then find the value of t:

h = 151 − 15t - 16t^2

0 = 151 − 15t - 16t^2

To solve this quadratic equation, you can use Bhaskara formula:

Delta = b2 - 4ac = (-15)^2 - 4*(-16)*151 = 9889

sqrt(Delta) = 99.4435

t1 = [-b + sqrt(Delta)] / 2a = (15 + 99.4435) / (-32) = -3.5764 seconds (not useful result, because there is not a negative time)

t2 = [-b - sqrt(Delta)] / 2a = (15 - 99.4435) / (-32) = 2.6389 seconds

Rounding to the nearest hundredth: t = 2.64 seconds

If you use this equation then you say that the ground is h=0 and solve as a quadratic.
The quadratic formula is (-b±<span>√(b^2-4ac))/2a when an equation is in the form ax^2 + bx + c
So the equation you have been given would be -16t^2-15t-151 = 0
This equation has no real roots which leads me to believe it is incorrect.
This is probably where your difficulty is coming from, it's a mistake.

The equation is formed from S=ut+(1/2)at^2+(So) where (So) is the initial height and S is the height that you want to find.
In this case you want S = 0.
If the initial height is +151 and the initial velocity and acceleration are downwards (negative) and the initial velocity (u) is -15 and the initial acceleration is -32 then you get the equation S=-15t-16t^2+151

Solving this using the quadratic formula gives you t = 2.64 or t = -3.58
Obviously -3.58s can't be the answer so you're left with 2.64 seconds.

Hope this makes sense.

What is the solution of the system of equations graphed?
DochEvi [55]

Answer:

A) (-3, 5)

General Formulas and Concepts:

<u>Algebra I</u>

  • Solving systems of equations by graphing

Step-by-step explanation:

The solution set to any systems of equations is where the 2 lines intersect. According to the graph, we see that the 2 lines intersect at (-3, 5). Therefore, our answer is A.

The 6 angles with vertex P are:

  1. Angle APB
  2. Angle APC
  3. Angle APD
  4. Angle BPC
  5. Angle BPD
  6. Angle CPD

The letter P must be in the middle since this location is the vertex. Something like angle BPA is the same as angle APB. We can swap the order of the outer letters without any change to the angle itself. Effectively, this means each angle has two possible names.

Suppose that \nabla f(x,y,z) = 2xyze^{x^2}\mathbf{i} + ze^{x^2}\mathbf{j} + ye^{x^2}\mathbf{k}. if f(0,0,0) = 2, find f(1,1,1).
lesya [120]

The simplest path from (0, 0, 0) to (1, 1, 1) is a straight line, denoted C, which we can parameterize by the vector-valued function,

\mathbf r(t)=(1-t)(\mathbf i+\mathbf j+\mathbf k)

for 0\le t\le1, which has differential

\mathrm d\mathbf r=-(\mathbf i+\mathbf j+\mathbf k)\,\mathrm dt

Then with x(t)=y(t)=z(t)=1-t, we have

\displaystyle\int_{\mathcal C}\nabla f(x,y,z)\cdot\mathrm d\mathbf r=\int_{t=0}^{t=1}\nabla f(x(t),y(t),z(t))\cdot\mathrm d\mathbf r

=\displaystyle\int_{t=0}^{t=1}\left(2(1-t)^3e^{(1-t)^2}\,\mathbf i+(1-t)e^{(1-t)^2}\,\mathbf j+(1-t)e^{(1-t)^2}\,\mathbf k\right)\cdot-(\mathbf i+\mathbf j+\mathbf k)\,\mathrm dt

\displaystyle=-2\int_{t=0}^{t=1}e^{(1-t)^2}(1-t)(t^2-2t+2)\,\mathrm dt

Complete the square in the quadratic term of the integrand: t^2-2t+2=(t-1)^2+1=(1-t)^2+1, then in the integral we substitute u=1-t:

\displaystyle=-2\int_{t=0}^{t=1}e^{(1-t)^2}(1-t)((1-t)^2+1)\,\mathrm dt

\displaystyle=-2\int_{u=0}^{u=1}e^{u^2}u(u^2+1)\,\mathrm du

Make another substitution of v=u^2:

\displaystyle=-\int_{v=0}^{v=1}e^v(v+1)\,\mathrm dv

Integrate by parts, taking

r=v+1\implies\mathrm dr=\mathrm dv

\mathrm ds=e^v\,\mathrm dv\implies s=e^v

\displaystyle=-e^v(v+1)\bigg|_{v=0}^{v=1}+\int_{v=0}^{v=1}e^v\,\mathrm dv

\displaystyle=-(2e-1)+(e-1)=-e

So, we have by the fundamental theorem of calculus that

\displaystyle\int_C\nabla f(x,y,z)\cdot\mathrm d\mathbf r=f(1,1,1)-f(0,0,0)

\implies-e=f(1,1,1)-2

\implies f(1,1,1)=2-e
