Could you take a wider picture so we can see the full equation. And remember, all triangle angles adds up to 180.

Find the value of y
Rainbow [258]
You'll apply the geometric mean formula. The idea is to multiply the two pieces of the hypotenuse: 5*11 = 55

Then apply the square root to get sqrt(55)

The exact answer in terms of radicals or square roots is sqrt(55)

Using a calculator, the approximate answer is sqrt(55) = 7.416198

If your teacher wants you to use a proportion, then one way to do it is to have
11/y = y/5
11*5 = y*y
55 = y^2
y^2 = 55
y = sqrt(55)
y = 7.416198 approximately

What is the value of x in the proportion (x-1)/5=(4x+2)/35
neonofarm [45]
(x-1)/5 = (4x + 2)/35

lets start off by multiplying each side by 5

(x-1) = 5(4x + 2)/35

then let's multiply both sides by 35

35(x-1) = 5(4x + 2)

now let's distribute the coefficients (5 and 35) into everything in the brackets

35 times x is 35x
35 rimes 1 is 35

5 times 4x is 20x
5 times 2 is 10

(35x - 35) = (20x + 10)

we can add 35 to both sides

35x = 20x + 45

then subtract 20x on both sides

15x = 45

then divide both sides by 15

x = 3

How many different arrangements can be made using all of the letters in the word Iowa?
Alika [10]
1. Check the tree diagram in the attached picture.

2. The first Letter can be one of the letters I, O , W or A. Assume your first letter is I, then you have 3 choices for the second letter, that is O, W or A.

3. Assume you pick O, then you have 2 options for the third letter; W or A.

4. If you pick A, then the last letter can only be W.

5. the path described is the "red line path" in the picture; that is the arrangement IOAW.

6. Another path is the "dashed line path" IAOW.

7. We count 6 "paths", where I is the first letter, each "path" standing for one arrangement.

8. 4*6=24 is the total number of paths, that is arrangements of the letters IOWA.

9. Remark: The first choice is 4, combined (multiplied) by 3 choices for the second letter, combined (multiplied) by 2 choices for the third and finally multiplied by 1.

10. Thus there are 4*3*2*1 arrangements of 4 (different) letters.

How do I solve this problem?
Lilit [14]

Answer:

The diagonal is 14sqrt(2) ft

Step-by-step explanation:

The area of a square is given by

A =s^2 where s is the side length

196 = s^2

Take the square root of each side

sqrt(196) =sqrt(s^2)

14 = s

The side length is 14 ft

Now we can use the Pythagorean theorem to find the length of the diagonal

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

The side lengths of the triangle are s = 14, and the diagonal is the hypotenuse

14^2 + 14^2 = c^2

196+196 = c^2

392 = c^2

Take the square root of each side

sqrt(392) = sqrt(c^2)

sqrt(196 *2) = c

We can separate  this into two pieces  sqrt(ab) = sqrt(a) sqrt(b)

sqrt(196)sqrt(2) =c

14sqrt(2) = c

The diagonal is 14sqrt(2) ft
