Find the equation of the line that is parallel to the given line and passes through (5, -1). 32. y = 2x−7

To solve this problem, we need to use our knowledge that parallel lines have the same slope. If we have a line that is parallel to the line y = 2x - 7, our line must also have a slope of 2 (we know this line has a slope of 2 because it is in slope-intercept form, y=mx + b, where m represents slope and b represents the y-intercept).

Now, we can use our known slope and our given point to substitute into point-slope form, as shown below:

y = m (x - h) + k

y = 2 (x - 5) - 1

Next, we can simplify our equation by using the distributive property to get rid of the parentheses.

y = 2x - 10 - 1

Finally, we can complete our equation by computing the subtraction.

y = 2x - 11

We can conclude that this is the correct answer because if you plug in the point (5, -1) you get a true statement and it has a slope of 2.

Therefore, the answer is y = 2x - 11.

Hope this helps!

What are the possible values of x? Select all that apply
Phoenix [80]

Answer:

the answer is b

Step-by-step explanation:

The horizontal value in a pair of coordinates: how far along the point is. The X Coordinate is always written first in an ordered pair of coordinates (x,y), such as (12,5). In this example, the value "12" is the X Coordinate. Also called "Abscissa"

Your question seems to be -7 +(1/8) -(-9) + (1/2) but then there is a decimal in front of the next -2 so that makes no sense unless that is a period before starting a new equation. You can simply type this beginning section into a calculator to get your answer of (21/8), but I have a feeling you just tried to copy and paste a test question and it did not format correctly in your question so is probably much more complicated than using a calculator.
A better idea would be to write it in math terms instead of words, then find a common denominator so you can simplify. Writing it out in words makes it too hard for your brain to think about it in terms of math.
