How do you find the distance between two points that have the same y-coordinate and lie in the same quadrant?

If the two points are ( 2, 1 ) and ( 3, 1 ) which have same y-coordinates lying in same quadrants.

Distance between these points should be = \sqrt{(x-x')^{2}+(y-y')^{2}  }

= \sqrt{(3-2)^{2}+(1-1)^{2}  }

= \sqrt{1^{2}+0 }

= 1

In other words if two points which lie in same quadrant and have same y- coordinates, distance between the points will be calculated by (x - x') = Difference in x coordinates.

you just need to subtract the 2 x coordinates X2-X1:

 example (1,4) (5,4) have the same Y coordinate

 so you would subtract the x's  5-1 = 4

 the distance is 4
