<span>Social relations changed in the United States because many northerners backed Lincoln's decision to make the Civil War about slavery. One way it impacted the outcome of the civil war was the fact that it made the war about slavery. This made many African Americans join the Union and that resulted in a continued number advantages when it came to troops available for the North. One way in which the Emancipation Proclamation had little to no impact was the fact that Blacks in the South were not free just because the proclamation said so. Southerners did not consider themselves part of the Union therefore they did not adjust their practices to accommodate the proclamation.</span>
