Complete question:

Two cars collide head on while each is traveling at 90 km/h. Suppose all their kinetic energy is transformed into the thermal energy of the wrecks. What is the temperature increase of each car?

you may assume that the specific heat capacity of each car is that of

iron..

Answer:

The temperature increase of each car is 0.68 k

Explanation:

Given;

velocity of each car, v = 90 km/h

velocity of each car (in m/s) = (90 x 10)/36 = 25 m/s

Kinetic energy of each car, KE = ¹/₂ mv²

Total Kinetic energy of the two cars = 2 x ¹/₂ mv² = mv²

Thermal energy = mcΔT

Total thermal energy of the the two cars = 2 x mcΔT = 2mcΔT

Suppose all their kinetic energy is transformed into the thermal energy of the wrecks, then; 2mcΔT = mv²

divide both sides by m,

2cΔT = v²

where;

c is the specific heat of iron = 460.548 J/kg.K

ΔT is the temperature increase of each car

v is the velocity of each car = 25 m/s

Substitute these values and calculate ΔT

ΔT = v²/2c

ΔT  = (25)²/(2 x 460.548)

ΔT  = 0.679 k = 0.68 k

Therefore, the temperature increase of each car is 0.68 k

A student forms the following hypothesis if people wear bright colors, they will be happier. What is/are the problems with this
mars1129 [50]
There is no scientific evidence to support this claim. And it is not telling what colors are needing to be worn only the stated bright colors which can mean an assortment of things.

According to recent typical test data, a Ford Focus travels 0.240 mi in 19.3 s, starting from rest. The same car, when braking f
Anit [1.1K]

Answer:

Explanation:

a )

While breaking initial velocity u = 62.5 mph

= 62.5 x 1760 x 3 / (60 x 60 )  ft /s

= 91.66 ft / s

distance trvelled s = 150 ft

v² = u² - 2as

0 = 91.66²  - 2 a x 150

a = - 28 ft / s²

b ) While accelerating initial velocity u = 0

distance travelled s = .24 mi

time = 19.3 s

s = ut + 1/2 at²

s is distance travelled in time t with acceleration a ,

.24 = 0 + 1/2 a x 19.3²

a = .001288 mi/s²

= 2.06 m /s²

c )

If distance travelled s = .25 mi

final velocity v = ? a = .001288 mi / s²

v² = u² + 2as

= 0 + 2 x .001288 x .25

= .000644

v = .025 mi / s

= .0025 x 60 x 60 mi / h

= 91.35 mph .

d ) initial velocity u = 59 mph

= 86.53 ft / s

final velocity = 0

acceleration = - 28 ft /s²

v = u - at

0 = 86.53 - 28 t

t = 3 sec approx .
