Question: In the space provided, explain the relationship between Puritanism and democracy. How did Puritan beliefs affect Puritan government?

Answer: Many of the Puritan colonies were established by people wishing to codify and unite religion with democracy (government) and the colonist were governed by members of the puritan populous. <em><u>The Puritan beiefs affected in many ways due to the fact that the colony laws were directly influenced by the Puritan system of religious beliefs.</u></em> It affected women and men. Women were not allowed to participate in politics, they had no right for leadership roles in church and had no right of expression. Also, men who weren’t participants of the Puritan beliefs, didn’t have the right to vote nor could they own properties of any matter. <u>The Puritans were very cold hearted to the members of their communities by using public punishments, excommunication and even banishments due to the unwavering faith of those who didn’t participate in the Puritan’s religion. They connected politics with their Paritan beliefs and influenced in laws by using their religious points of views.</u>
