He was a 10-ton block of steel when it came to action and getting up to get things going.

Metaphors are basically comparisons of things that are unlike. Metaphors are used, mainly, to give readers a sense of understanding when there may not otherwise be one. What this means is that authors will compare something that may not be known to readers to something that most likely will be known in order to present the best image understood by the most readers. If, for instance, you had a friend who was stubborn and wanted to convey just how stubborn this person is to readers you might say something like “He was a 10-ton block of steel when it came to action and getting up to get things going.” Thus, because only you would know for certain just how stubborn your friend is in certain situations, one way to communicate just how stubborn this person is would be to mention something like 10 tons of steel because everybody is familiar with how heavy a ton is—non moveable—and everyone will know what steel is. As such, metaphors can be used to communicate something by addressing a common point of knowledge.

You'll want to leave it out. if it isn't conducive to the content of your paper, it's more like a distraction from what you're trying to say. parentheses might be a "safe" way to signify a side topic, but it weakens the paper as a general statement because the reader has to pause and take a moment to absorb a new topic before going back to what you were saying

What is a basic word part that comes from another language?
Anit [1.1K]

Answer: Root

Explanation:

Affix, is produced when a grammatical element is being joined with a word, or phrase in order for an infected form of the word to be produced. Affix are typically of three firms which are the prefixes, the innfixes, and the suffixes.

Word roots are simply the words that are taken from other languages and it should be noted that these are where majority of English words come from. Some English words have either Greek or Latin origins. Roots are basic word part that comes from another language.

A prefix is a group of letters that are typically placed before a word's root. e.g "un" which means not can be seen in words like unhappy which simply means not happy.

Unlike prefixes, the suffixes are not added at the start but rather at the end of that word e.g ment, ness etc.

Therefore, based on the explanation, the answer is root.
