Okay, to explain this you might have to grab a periodic table.

Do you have one? Good. Look at the most left side of the periodic table. The first group is the largest atoms in the periodic table. If you go to the right of the periodic table, the atoms get progressively smaller and smaller.

Why is this? Don't atoms get more electrons, and so become significantly bigger as they move to the right?

Although atoms do get more electrons as they go to the right, they also get more protons too. Protons pull on electrons and make atoms smaller. Because of this, going from left to right in a periodic table makes the atoms smaller and smaller, since more and more protons are added.

In this scenario, Aluminum is more to the right than Sodium, which means that it has more protons. Because of this, the protons in Aluminum pull more strongly on electrons than sodium, thus making aluminum smaller.

(Just a side note, going down in a periodic table makes the atoms bigger, since new shells are added every time)

Good luck! If you need any help, just ask :))

. Calculate the pH and the pOH of each of the following solutions at 25 °C for which the substances ionize completely:
barxatty [35]
A. HCl:
pH= -log [H3O+]
PH=-log (0.200)
= 0.699

poH= 14-0.699
= 13.301

b. NaOH:
PoH= -log [OH-]
= -log (0.0143)
= 1.845
pH= 14-poH
= 14- 1.845
= 12.16

c. HNO3:
PH= -log[H3O+]
=-log(3.0)
= -0.4771
poH= 14-pH
= 14-9-0.4771
= 14.4771

pH= -0.4771, poH= 14.4771

d. [Ca(OH)2] = 0.0031M
[OH-]= 2X0.0031
[OH-] = 0.0062M

PoH= - log[OH-]
=-log(0.0062)
=-log(6.2x10-3)
=-(-2.21)
= 2.21
PH=14-poH
=14-2.21
=11.79
POH=2.21, PH= 11.79

Exposure of silver Chloride to sunlight for a long<br>duration turns grey due to
Tema [17]

Answer:

Exposure of silver chloride to sunlight for a long duration turns grey due to photolytic decomposition i.e decomposition in the presence of sunlight.

Explanation:

When silver chloride, AgCl is exposed to sunlight for a long time, it will undergo decomposition as the sunlight provides sufficient energy needed to decomposed the salt, AgCl to metallic silver and chlorine gas. This can be seen in the equation below:

2AgCl —> 2Ag + Cl2

Which statement is true about BF3, a nonpolar molecule? It has nonpolar bonds and a symmetrical structure. It has nonpolar bonds
konstantin123 [22]
I think the correct answer is the first option. It has nonpolar bonds and a symmetrical structure. The structure of a BF3 molecule shows a symmetrical trigonal geometry. The net dipole moment of the molecule is zero therefore it is polar.

The first law of thermodynamics is observed when
krek1111 [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

The first law of Thermodynamics is known as Conservation because it explains that energy is always maintained within a closed system and cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, this is observed when there is no longer change in temperature in a system. Mainly because the energy is not being transferred to and from another system. Without this transfer of energy, the energy itself gets conserved within the system and the temperature no longer fluctuates.
