For Maslow, all human beings strive to meet their personal and professional needs. However, some needs are more important than others. Maslow divided them into five groups, contemplating those that are considered primary (or basic) and those that are secondary. Thus was born Maslow's hierarchy of needs shows the stages people go through to achieve self-actualization.
The needs considered basic are the physiological and safety needs. Those that are considered secondary are the social ones, those of status or self-esteem and those of self-realization.
