For example, if a journalists writes an article about a suspect in a crime based on information from a non-credible source, then that journalist can get fired and ruin their career if word gets out that the information is false. At the same time they are ruining the lives and reputation of the individual's who are mentioned in the article, and maybe even the involved case. This is just one example of how false information can have both work and life consequences.
