42 = -6 + 3x
42 = 3x - 6      (just moving 3x and -6 around)
42+ 6 = 3x - 6 + 6     (adding 6 to both sides)
42 = 3x
42/3 = 3x/3 (dividing by 3 to both sides to isolate for x)
14 = x

You're trying to isolate for x, so you have to get it alone on one side. To do this you have to add/subtract and multiply/divide, but remember that whatever you do to one side you have to do to the other. Hope this helped! :)

Y = f(x) = 16x Find f(x) when x = 1/2
Alina [70]

Answer:

The answer depends on what the problem really is.

f(1/2) = 8

or

f(1/2) = 4

See below.

Step-by-step explanation:

This is the problem as it was posted:

y = f(x) = 16x

Let x = 1/2

y = f(1/2) = 16(1/2) = 8

Perhaps the problem is this:

y = f(x) = 16^x

If x is an exponent of 16 and not a factor, then the answer is:

y = f(\frac{1}{2}) = 16^\frac{1}{2} = \sqrt{16} = 4

Colby starts with 50 bacteria in his culture and the number of bacteria doubles every 2 hours, and Jaquan starts with 80 bacteri
Ymorist [56]
Given that x=number of days
To model the expressions we use the exponential growth given by:
y=a(b)^nx
where:
a=initial value
b=growth factor
n=24 hours
thus Colby's experiment will be:
y=50(2)^(1/2*24*x)
y=50(2)^(12x)
N/B we multiply by 24 so as to convert days into hours

b] Jaquan's starts with 80 bacteria that double every 3 hours.
a=80, b=2
thus
y=80(2)^(1/3×24×x)
simplifying the above we get:
y=80(2)^(8x)
