Given:

Regular polygon.

Side length = 18 in

To find:

The area of the regular polygon.

Solution:

Let us first find the apothem (length from center to side).

<u>Apothem formula:</u>

$a=\frac{s}{2 \tan \left(\frac{180^\circ}{n}\right)}

where s is side length and n is number of sides.

number of sides (n) = 6

$a=\frac{18}{2 \tan \left(\frac{180^\circ}{6}\right)}

$a=\frac{9}{\tan (30^\circ)}

The value of \tan \left(30^{\circ}\right)=\frac{\sqrt{3}}{3}

$a=\frac{9}{\frac{\sqrt{3}}{3}}

a=9 \sqrt{3} in

<u>Area of regular polygon:</u>

$A=\frac{1}{2} \times p \times  a

where p is perimeter of polygon and a is apothem.

$A=\frac{1}{2} \times (6\times 18) \times  9\sqrt{3}

$A=54 \times  9\sqrt{3}

$A=841.78 square inches.

The area of the regular polygon is 841.78 square inches.

Two forces with magnitudes of 100 and 50 pounds act on an object at angles of 50° and 160°, respectively. Find the direction and
shusha [124]
Forces in direction x:

fx1 = 100 * cos (50) = 64.28
 fx2 = 50 * cos (160) = - 46.99
 The resultant is:
 fx = fx1 + fx2 = 17.29

 Forces in direction y:

fy1 = 100 * sine (50) = 76.60
 fy2 = 50 * sine (160) = 17.10
 The resultant is:
 fy = fy1 + fy2 = 93.70
 The magnitude of the resulting force is:

f = root (fx ^ 2 + fy ^ 2)
 f = root ((17.29) ^ 2 + (93.70) ^ 2)
 f = 95.28
 The angle is:

theta = atan (fy / fx)
 theta = atan (93.70 / 17.29)
 theta = 79.55 degrees
 Answer:

The direction and magnitude of the resultant force are:

f = 95.28 pounds at theta = 79.55 degrees

The result of 6 subtracted from a number n is at least 2. Which inequality represents this situation? A.
anygoal [31]
It had to be B

because 6 is subtracted by the number n and the only one that has n-6/ 6-n is B

Simplify the expression using long division. (10x2 – 85x – 10) ÷ (x – 8)
Lelechka [254]

Answer: 5 • (2x2 - 17x - 2)

 ———————————————————

        x - 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Step by step solution :

Step  1  :

Equation at the end of step  1  :

Step  2  :

           10x2 - 85x - 10

Simplify   ———————————————

                x - 8

Step  3  :

Pulling out like terms :

3.1     Pull out like factors :

  10x2 - 85x - 10  =   5 • (2x2 - 17x - 2)

Trying to factor by splitting the middle term

3.2     Factoring  2x2 - 17x - 2

The first term is,  2x2  its coefficient is  2 .

The middle term is,  -17x  its coefficient is  -17 .

The last term, "the constant", is  -2

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant   2 • -2 = -4

Step-2 : Find two factors of  -4  whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is   -17 .

     -4    +    1    =    -3

     -2    +    2    =    0

     -1    +    4    =    3

Observation : No two such factors can be found !!

Conclusion : Trinomial can not be factored
