If the sun is shining on the ice, some of that solar energy will be absorbed. Ice is clear at visible wavelengths, the energy to which our eyes are sensitive. But the sun emits radiation at other wavelengths which water will absorb, and thus increases its energy gain.

If these gains exceed the energy losses, the ice will warm. If it reaches the melting point, the ice will start to melt. The sun can also add energy and warm the sidewalk, increasing its temperature to above freezing. This will then warm the ice via conduction and lead to its melting.

Hope this helps lol

One crystalline form of silica (SiO2) has a cubic unit cell, and from X-ray diffraction data it is known that the cell edge leng
Sav [38]

Answer:

8 Silicon atom are present in unit cell.

16 oxygen atoms are present unit cell.

Explanation:

Number of atoms in unit cell = Z =?

Density of silica = tex]2.32 g/cm^3[/tex]

Edge length of cubic unit cell = a  = 0.700 nm = 0.700\times 10^{-7} cm

1 nm=10^{-7} cm

Molar mass of Silica  = 28.09 g/mol+16.00\times 2=60.09 g/mol

Formula used :

\rho=\frac{Z\times M}{N_{A}\times a^{3}}

where,

\rho = density

Z = number of atom in unit cell

M = atomic mass

(N_{A}) = Avogadro's number

a = edge length of unit cell

On substituting all the given values , we will get the value of 'a'.

2.32 g/cm3=\frac{Z\times 60.09 g/mol}{6.022\times 10^{23} mol^{-1}\times (0.700\times 10^{-7}cm)^{3}}

Z = 8

1 silicon is 2 oxygen atoms. then 8 silicon atoms will be 16 oxygen atoms.

A student is monitoring the pressure of a gas in a rigid container. The amount of gas particles and the volume of the container
GenaCL600 [577]

a.The gas pressure will decrease.

Explanation:

If in a rigid container, the amount of gas particles and volume of the container is held constant, the pressure will decrease if the temperature is reduced.

  • Gases are highly random particles and they require a high amount of kinetic energy to be in their state of matter.
  • In a condition where volume of container is fixed, the amount of gas particles is fixed and the temperature reduced, the kinetic energy of the gas particles will directly reduce.
  • The kinetic energy of gases is directly related to temperature.

Write the name of the product formed in the following synthesis reaction. <br> potassium + fluorine
balandron [24]

Answer:

potassium and fluorine both react and form potassium fluoride.

Explanation:

Synthesis reaction:

It is the reaction in which two or more simple substance react to give one or more complex product.

General reaction:

A + B → AB

For example in given potassium and fluorine reaction both react and form potassium fluoride.

Chemical reaction:

K + F₂ → KF

Balanced chemical reaction:

2K + F₂ → 2KF

The oxidation state of potassium is +1 while the oxidation state of fluorine is -1. That's why one atom of potassium combine with one atom fluorine and form potassium fluoride.
