The Whiskey Rebellion was a tax protest in the United States beginning in 1791 during the presidency of George Washington. The whiskey tax was the first tax put in place on a domestic product with the new government. It was intended to help reduce debt from the revolution. The tax was on all spirits but since whiskey was the most popular one of all.

The tax was resisted by farmers in the western frontier regions who were used to distilling their surplus grain and corn into whiskey. In these regions, whiskey was sufficiently popular that it often served as a form of exchange. Many of the resisters were war veterans who believed that they were fighting for the principles of the American Revolution, in particular against taxation without local representation, while the U.S. federal government maintained that the taxes were the legal expression of the taxation powers of Congress.

Throughout counties in Western Pennsylvania, protesters used violence and intimidation to prevent federal officials from collecting the tax.

Does the government under the Constitution have that ability now?
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

No, the government under the Constitution does not have that ability now.

Explanation:

 • The early governments that were not bound by established rules could implement new decisions through their own conscience every other day.
 • Such governments had given themselves the ability to conduct governance the way they thought was right for society.
 • In other words, they had the ability to govern the governed without the consent of governed.
 • This undue ability of the governments got limitations as the Constitution came into being.

Law Incorporation [45]
The correct answer should be Police should not be allowed to torture suspects until they confess.

Every year there are hundreds of people who are coerced into admitting to a crime that they did not commit due to the fact that the police believes that they had committed the crime, even though there's not enough evidence. The fifth amendment protects the people from this.

what did the jewish, mexicans, chinese italian immigrants and have to do with the rise of political machines? Who, what why, etc
snow_lady [41]
To begin with, a political machine is an organization in which an organization gains support via promising rewards to those who keep them in power. It's designed to keep a particular group in power by promising favors. Typically, immigrants who first arrived here were impoverished, so political machines became so successful because they would promise to set immigrants up with homes or jobs or food so long as they had their vote.
So in short:

Who: Organizations whose main goals were getting and keeping power.

What: They essentially bribed immigrants for their votes.

Why: Political Machines did this to stay in power.
