The butterfly population is said to have a genetic variation in the form of yellow and green alleles. The green butterflies have a survival advantage over yellow ones as the former one are less visible to the predator.

Gradually, the population would consist of green butterflies only, that is, the evolution of the population of butterflies having green allele only.
