Put the terms in order of decreasing degree, all on the left. When convenient, it is nice to have mutually prime integer coefficients with the leading one positive.

a) x² -2x +1 = 0

b) x² +15 = 0

c) 4x² -12 = 0
or, better, divide out the common factor of 4.
  x² -3 = 0

d) 3x² -x -5 = 0

_____
Shown is the standard form for a single-variable second-degree equation. Form varies depending on the nature of the equation. Equations of conic sections have different standard forms, depending on the curve.

19) Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line described by (-4,-5), parallel to y = -2x - 5.
bezimeni [28]

Step-by-step explanation:

Since is it parallel to the given line, we can directly take the slope from the given equation.

m = -2 according to the given equation.

Next, use the point (-4,-5) to write the point-slope form first.

y-(-5) = -2(x-(-4))

Then use basic algebra to put it into slope-intercept form, which is y = mx + b.

y + 5 = -2x - 8

y = -2x - 13

A race car is moving with a velocity of 144 kilometers/hour. The driver applies the brakes, and the car comes to a halt in 12.0
FinnZ [79.3K]
To answer, first, convert the given velocity in km/h to m/s as shown below,
                        (144 km / hr) x (1000 m / 1 km) x (1 hr / 3600 s) = 40 m/s
The acceleration (a) is solved by through the equation,
                                     a = (Vf - Vi) / Δt
where Vf and Vi are final and initial velocities, respectively and Δt is change in time. Substituting the known values,
                                     a = (0 - 40 m/s) / 12 s = -3.3 m/s²
Thus, the answer to this item is letter B.
