Hey there!

So it's mentioned that the line is parallel, hence their gradient are equals.

From the eqn, y = 2x + 1 , you'll find that the gradient is 2 (conveniently, the equation of the line is directly derived from y=mx+c, where m is the gradient.)

Using the coordinates (2, -1) as the line passes through those points, make a new equation (with y=mx+c) with those points and the gradient 2 in order to find constant c.

-1=(2)(2) + c
c=-5

hence, the equation is y=2x-5.

The whole working is actually very short so I hope I didn't overcomplicate things :(

A line passes through the point (-1,-5) and has a slope of -5.
Anna71 [15]
<h3>hello!</h3>

We're given a point that the line intersects and its slope.

Let's use Point-slope:-

\boxed{y-y1=m(x-x1)}

y1 = -5

m=-5

x1=-1

\boxed{y-(-5)=-5(x-(-1)}

\boxed{y+5=-5(x+1)}

Convert to slope-intercept:-

\boxed{y+5=-5x-5}

\boxed{y=-5x-5-5}

Finally,

\bigstar{\boxed{\pmb{y=-5x-10}}

<h3>note:-</h3>

Hope everything is clear; if you need any clarification/explanation, kindly let me know, and I will comment and/or edit my answer :)

Choose the equation below that represents the line passing through the point (1, -4) with a slope of 1/2
tatiyna

For this case we have that by definition, the line equation of the slope-intersection form is given by:

y = mx + b

Where:

m: It's the slope

b: It is the cut-off point with the y axis

According to the statement we have:

m = \frac {1} {2}

Thus, the equation is of the form:

y = \frac {1} {2} x + b

We substitute the given point and find "b":

-4 = \frac {1} {2} (1) + b\\-4 = \frac {1} {2} + b\\-4- \frac {1} {2} = b\\b = - \frac {9} {2}

Finally, the equation is of the form:

y = \frac {1} {2} x- \frac {9} {2}

Answer:

y = \frac {1} {2} x- \frac {9} {2}
