The idea that men were supposed to be the breadwinner of the houses while women were supposed to stay home and raise kids was a prevalent concept. This conformist culture resulted in backlash from citizens who did not believe in having this type of life. For example, some women despised the conformist culture as they felt it limited economic opportunities for women.
