Ocean surface waters are primarily moved by wind, this influences surface ocean currents. Wind direction plays an important role since it affects the direction of the currents, however, wind direction is affected by earth spin, this is called Coriolis effect, and creates different patterns for wind movement in different parts of the world, therefore, creating different currents.
