Find the line that is normal to the parabola at the given point
remember that normal means perpendicular
perpendicular lines have slopes that multiply to -1
we can use point slope form to write the equation of the line since we are given the point (1,0)

we just need the slope

take derivitive
y'=1-2x
at x=1
y'=1-2(1)
y'=1-2
y'=-1

the slope is -1
the perpendicular of that slope is what number we can multiply to get -1
-1 times what=-1?
what=1
duh
so
point (1,0) and slope 1
y-0=1(x-1)
y=x-1 is da equation

solve for where y=x-1 and y=x-x² intersect

set equatl to each other since equal y
x-1=x-x²
x²-1=0
factor difference of 2 perfect squares
(x-1)(x+1)=0
set to zero

x-1=0
x=1
we got this point already

x+1=0
x=-1
sub back
y=-1-(-1)²
y=-1-(1)
y=-1-1
y=-2

it intersects at (-1,-2)

The domain is the set of input values of a function. The input oval is the one on the left. 
All we do is list the numbers in the input oval to get this list: {-6,-1,1,5,7}
The curly braces tell the reader that we're talking about a set of values.
So this is the domain.

The range is the same way but with the output oval on the right side
List those values in the right oval and we have {-4,-1,2,4}
Which is the range. That's all there is to it.

Part 2 (The tables)

Like with the ovals in part 1, we simply list the input values. The x values are the input values. Notice how this list is on the left side to indicate inputs.
So that's why the domain is {1, -3, -2}. Optionally you can sort from smallest to largest if you want. Doing so leads to {-3, -2, 1}

The range is {-2,5,1} for similar reasons. Simply look at the y column

Side Note: we haven't had to do it so far, but if we get duplicate values then we must toss them.

Part 3 (the graph)

Using a pencil, draw vertical lines that lead from each point to the x axis. You'll notice that you touch the x axis at the following numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
So the domain is the list of those x values (similar to part 2) and it is {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

Erase your pencil marks from earlier. Draw horizontal lines from each point to the y axis. The horizontal lines will arrive at these y values: -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 6
So that's why the range is {-1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 6}

The mean greater than the median and mode mean that distribution is rightly/positively skewed.

d. Mean of 3 numbers is 12. Two of them are 15 and 20. What is the third number?

The mean is the sum of variables divided by the number of variables

Mean = = (Σx)/N

x = each variable

Let the unknown third number be y

N = number of variables = 3

12 = (15 + 20 + y)/3

35 + y = 36

y = 36 - 35 = 1

e. What is the relationship between variance and standard deviation?

The variance is an average of the squared deviations from the mean.

The standard deviation is the square root of variance.

f. You scored in the 55th percentile on the GRE. If 8,000 people took the GRE, how many people had a score at least as high as your score?

Like I explained in (a), scoring 55th percentile mean that one has scored more than 55% of the people that sat for the exam.

So, the percentage of people that score as much as the 55th percentile will be the top (100-55)% of people thay sat for the exam.

45% of 8000 = 3600 people.

3600 people had a score at least as high as the 55th percentile's score.
