Henry David Thoreau graduated in 1837 and worked as a schoolmaster, after a short time he started to write poetry.

He stopped paying taxes against slavery and was later arrested , then Thoreau was incentivated due this reason to write his famous essay, "Civil Disobedience", at the same time US declared war against Mexico and invated the nation. So he thought that taking people's liverty wasn't honest.

In conclusions Thoreau believed that a person oews his allegiance or loyalty to justice, even I you need to disobey the law.

Henry David Thoreau motivated people to be truthful and loyal, his main objective in writing was the unfair government.

Making a big emphasis on slavery and war, many of his arguments talk about changing the government by doing what we consider right.

A very important moment in his life, which made him write the book civil disobedience, was the legal conflict he had due to his refusal to pay taxes to a government who according to his opinion didn't deserve it.

Having a heavy political an civil opinion he always showed that the biggest allegiance of man should be to the truth and to do the right thing as a society.

Read the excerpt from “Speech at American University” by John F. Kennedy.
Andrews [41]
Read the excerpt from “Speech at American University” by John F. Kennedy.

Read the paragraph from John F. Kennedy’s “Inaugural Address.”

Let both sides unite to heed, in all corners of the earth, the command of Isaiah— to “undo the heavy burdens, and [to] let the oppressed go free.”

This paragraph is an example of allusion.

This is because the excerpt is alluding to Isaiah

Which type of logical fallacy do these sentences represent?
seropon [69]
This uses A. non-sequitur logic.

This is because the second inference does not rely upon the first. Just because someone likes the Star Wars movies does not mean that they also like the Harry Potter movies. These are two unrelated things, so a person does not automatically like both.

What tone is created by the words underlined in the passage?
almond37 [142]

Answer:

The shop seemed to be full of all manner of curious things—but the oddest part of it all was, that whenever she looked hard at any shelf, to make out exactly what it had on it, that particular shelf was always quite empty: though the others round it were crowded as full as they could hold.

"Things flow about so here!" she said at last in a plaintive tone, after she had spent a minute or so in vainly pursuing a large bright thing, that looked sometimes like a doll and sometimes like a work-box, and was always in the shelf next above the one she was looking at. "And this one is the most provoking of all—but I'll tell you what—" she added, as a sudden thought struck her, "I'll follow it up to the very top shelf of all. It'll puzzle it to go through the ceiling, I expect!"

How do the underlined words affect the tone of the passage?

They create a tone of wonder.
