A car rental firm has the following charges for a certain type of car: $25 per day with 100 free miles included, $0.15 per mile

for more than 100 miles. Suppose you want to rent a car for one day, and you know you'll use it for more than 100 miles. What is the equation for relating the cost y to the number of miles x that you drive the car?

y = 25 + 0.15x is the equation for relating the cost y to the number of miles x that you drive the car

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Let "y" be the total cost of car rental

Let "x" be the number of miles you drive the car for more than 100 miles

<em><u>A car rental firm has the following charges for a certain type of car:</u></em>

$25 per day with 100 free miles included, $0.15 per mile for more than 100 miles

<em><u>Suppose you want to rent a car for one day, and you know you'll use it for more than 100 miles</u></em>

Therefore,

Car is rented for one day

You will use it for more than 100 miles

Therefore, equation is framed as:

Total cost = $ 25 + 0.15(number of hours)

Total\ Cost = 25 + 0.15x\\\\y = 25 + 0.15x

Thus the equation for relating the cost y to the number of miles x that you drive the car

Why is it mathematically legal to multiply 2 √ 2 by √ 2 √ 2 in order to rationalize the denominator?
Gala2k [10]
Well if you're referring to rationalizing \bf \cfrac{2}{\sqrt{2}}, which simply means, getting rid of the pesky radical at the bottom

well, it boils down to, hmm say... a quantity or even a polynomial, multiplied times 1, is itself, 2*1=2, 3*1 = 3, ducks*1 = ducks, spaghetti * 1 = spaghetti

or whatever * 1 = whatever
and the value of the multiplicand, doesn't change in anyway, is the same thing before and after the multiplication by 1

now....1 can also be a fraction  \bf \cfrac{2}{2}=1\qquad \cfrac{3}{3}=1\qquad \cfrac{1,000,000}{1,000,000}=1&#10;\\\\\\&#10;\cfrac{ducks}{ducks}=1\qquad \cfrac{spaghetti}{spaghetti}=1\qquad \cfrac{cheese}{cheese}=1&#10;\\\\\\&#10;\cfrac{\textit{the quick fox jumped}}{\textit{the quick fox jumped}}=1\qquad \cfrac{whatever}{whatever}=1

so.. when you're doing \bf \cfrac{2}{\sqrt{2}}\cdot \cfrac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}}\iff \cfrac{2}{\sqrt{2}}\cdot1

and the value multiplicand doesn't change in any way

now, try this in your calculator  \bf \cfrac{2}{\sqrt{2}}\cdot \cfrac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}}\implies \cfrac{2\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2^2}}\implies \cfrac{2\sqrt{2}}{2}\implies \sqrt{2}\\\\&#10;-----------------------------\\\\&#10;\textit{check how much is }\cfrac{2}{\sqrt{2}}\textit{ in your calculator}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;\textit{then check how much is }\sqrt{2}\textit{ in it}

3.) (4 x 9 - 21) \ 3+6^2
nignag [31]

Answer:

41

Step-by-step explanation:

Given Expression:

(4 x 9 - 21) \ 3+6^2

Multiply 4 and 9 to get 36.

36 - 21 / 3 + 6^2

Subtract 21 from 36 to get 15.

15/3 + 6^2

Divide 15 by 3 to get 5.

5+6^2

Calculate 6 to the power of 2 and get 36.

5+36

Add 5 and 36 to get 41.

Milan drove 715 miles in 11 hours. At the same rate, how many miles would he drive in 9 hours?
Gwar [14]

Answer:

585 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Basically since he drove 715 miles in 11 hours you would have to divide the 2 numbers then you get 63.

63 is the rate so then you multiply by 9 hours then that's your miles.

585 miles
