The equation for Zimbabwe's growth would be:
4x+1=12.6

Solve for x.
4x+1=12.6
Subtract 1 from both sides.
(4x+1)-1=(12.6)-1
4x=11.6
Divide both sides by 4.
(4x)/4=(11.6)/4
x=2.9

The approximate population of Zimbabwe in 1950 was 2.9 million.
