Why did Lincoln’s election as president convince southerners that they had lost their voice in the National government?
frosja888 [35]

In the 1850's Northern sympathies with the South eroded over the issue of slavery. The Democratic Party split into Northern and Southern factions, permitting Lincoln's Republican party to gain control of Congress and the White House in 1860. The South realized they no longer had allies in control of the Federal Government.

The Romans built one of the most powerful empires in the ancient world. Geography played a major role in their rise.
Musya8 [376]
The romans geography provided many helpful things. They were located surrounding the mediterranean sea, which allowed them to pretty much control all of the trade at the time. They also had the Alps and Apennines protecting them from outside forces. The rivers (Po and Tiber) allowed them to have fertile soil, which is great for food production to feed soldiers, etc.

Some disadvantages were that although the mountains protected them, it made it quite difficult to travel around and expand, the rivers also had a downside, they were prone to flooding.

I hope this helps!!
