At 9:00 on Saturday morning, two bicyclists heading in opposite directions pass each other on a bicycle path.The bicyclist headi

ng north is riding 4 km/hour faster than the bicyclist heading south. At 10:30, they are 39 km apart. Find the two bicyclists’ rates.
(A)northbound bicyclist = 15 km/h; southbound bicyclist = 11 km/h
(B)northbound bicyclist = 17 km/h; southbound bicyclist = 11 km/h
(C)northbound bicyclist = 15 km/h; southbound bicyclist = 10 km/h
(D)northbound bicyclist = 16 km/h; southbound bicyclist = 12 km/h

Answer: (A)northbound bicyclist = 15 km/h; southbound bicyclist = 11 km/h

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of the bicycle that is going to the south = x km/h

Thus, according to the question,

The speed of north going bicycle = ( x + 4 ) km/h

Since, they are going opposite to each other,

Hence, the relative speed of the both bicycle = (x + x + 4) km/h = (2 x+ 4) km/h

Now, after crossing each other at 10:30 AM, they are 39 km apart.

⇒ Relative distance = 39 km,

And, the relative time = 1 hour 30 minutes = 1\frac{1}{2} hours = 3/2 hours,

Since,

\text{Relative Speed}= \frac{\text{ Relative Distance }}{\text{Relative time}}

\implies 2x + 4 = \frac{39}{3/2}

\implies 2x+4 = \frac{78}{3}=26

\implies 2x = 22\implies x = 11

Therefore, the speed of south going bicycle = x km/h = 11 km/h

And, the speed of north going bicycle = (x + 4)  km/h = 15 km/h

Find the distance and midpoint for the following coordinates.<br> P(7.6 , 10.1) and Q(4.6 , 3.1)
KATRIN_1 [288]
Solving for the midpoint:

x - coordinate: (7.6 + 4.6)/2 = 6.1
y - coordinate: (10.1 + 3.1)/2 = 6.6

Midpoint: (6.1 , 6.6)

Solving for the distance:

Distance formula: sqrt( (x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2 )

D = sqrt( (7.6 - 4.6)^2 + (10.1 - 3.1)^2 <span>)
D = sqrt( 3^2 + 7^2)
D = sqrt(58)
D = 7.62 units

Distance = 7.62 units</span>

The number y of hits a new website receives each month can be modeled by y = 4070ekt, where t represents the number of months th
makvit [3.9K]

Answer:

<u><em>k = 0.2645</em></u>

Step-by-step explanation:

Given model:

y = 4070 e^{kt}

y = no. of hits website received = 9000 (in 3rd month)

t= no. of months website has been operational = 3

put in the above equation:

9000 = 4070  e^{3k}

\frac{9000}{4070} = e^{3k}

\frac{900}{407}=e^{3k}

<u><em>Taking natural logarithm on both sides, we get:</em></u>

ln\frac{900}{407}=ln(e^{3k})

ln\frac{900}{407}= 3k ln<em>e</em>

ln<em>e</em>=1

ln \frac{900}{407}= 3k

or k = \frac{1}{3}ln\frac{900}{(407)}

k =\frac{1}{3}(0.7936)

<em>k = 0.2645</em>

<h3>Answer: Approximately 6.4 units</h3>

==================================================

Explanation:

The origin is the point (0,0)

Use the distance formula to find the distance from (0, 0) to (4, -5)

Let

(x_1,y_1) = (0,0)\\\\(x_2,y_2) = (4,-5)\\\\

be our two points. Plug those values into the distance formula below and use a calculator to compute

d = \sqrt{\left(x_1-x_2\right)^2+\left(y_1-y_2\right)^2}\\\\d = \sqrt{\left(0-4\right)^2+\left(0-(-5)\right)^2}\\\\d = \sqrt{\left(0-4\right)^2+\left(0+5\right)^2}\\\\d = \sqrt{\left(-4\right)^2+\left(5\right)^2}\\\\d = \sqrt{16+25}\\\\d = \sqrt{41} \ \text{ exact distance}\\\\d \approx 6.40312 \ \text{ approximate distance}\\\\d \approx 6.4\\\\

The distance between the two points (0,0) and (4,-5) is approximately 6.4 units.
