Either you wrote down answer A wrong but C seems to be the flawed one. I may be mistake however, since A could be written done wrong

The overall cell reaction occurring in an alkaline battery isZn(s) + MnO₂(s) + H₂O(l) → ZnO(s) + Mn(OH)₂(s) (e) In practice, vol
zubka84 [21]

b) Mass of MnO₂ = 5.981 g

    Mass of H₂O = 1.2384 g

c) Total Mass of Reactant consumed = 11.708 g

b) Given Reaction

            Zn(s) + MnO₂(s) + H₂O(l) → ZnO(s) + Mn(OH)₂(s)

  Mass of Zn = 4.50 g

  Moles of Zn = 0.0688 moles

   Now,

    Moles of Zn = moles of MnO₂ = moles of H₂O = moles of ZnO = moles of Mn(OH)₂

Hence ,

Moles of MnO₂ = 0.0688 moles

Mass of MnO₂ = 0.0688 × 86.9368 g

                        = 5.981 g

Similarly,

    Moles of H₂O = 0.0688 moles

     Mass of H₂O = 0.0688 × 18 g

                           = 1.2384 g

c) now ,

    Moles of ZnO = 0.0688 moles

     Mass of  ZnO  = 0.06880× 81.3794 g

                              = 5.598 g

Moles of  Mn(OH)₂ = 0.0688 moles

  Mass of  Mn(OH)₂ =0.0688 × 88.952 g

                                  = 6.11 g

Total mass of Product = 11.708 g

Total Mass of Reactant = 11.715 g

Hence,

    Total mass of reactant consumed = 11.708 g

c) As total mass of reactant is more than that of mass of reactant consumed , Hence G is more than that of mass of reactant consumed .

G = - nFEcell

and no. of moles of reactant is greater than that of number of moles of reactant consumed .

       Hence voltaic cell of given Capacity are heavier than that of mass of reactant consumed .

Thus from above conclusion we can say that , Mass of the reactant consumed is 11.708 g.

A new potential heart medicine, code-named X-281, is being tested by a pharmaceutical company, Pharma-pill. As a research techni
yarga [219]

Answer:

The pKa of X-281 is 3.73.

Explanation:

X-281 is a monoprotic weak acid so that it will not dissociate completely in solution (weak acid) and will only produce 1 mol of protons per mol compound (monoprotic acid).

The dissociation equation could be written as follows:

X-281-H ⇆ X-281 + H⁺

Note the equilibrium arrows indicating that not all X-281-H dissociates at equilibrium.

Initially, the concentration of X-281-H is 0.089 M. At equilibrium, the concentration of the dissociation products, X-281 and H⁺, is unknown but both must be the same, since the drug is a monoprotic acid. We can call "X" to the concentration of the products. The concentration of X-281-H is the initial concentration minus the concentration of the products: 0.089 M - X. Then, at equilibrium, these are the concentrations of each species present:

  X-281-H               ⇆      X-281        +       H⁺

(0.089 M-X)                         X                    X

We also know that the pH is 2.40. Then:

pH = -log[H⁺] = 2.40

where [H⁺] is the molar concentration of the protons or "X". Then:

-log X = 2.40

log X = -2.40

X = 10^(-2.40) = 3.98 x 10⁻³ M

The concentration of each species present in the equilibrium is then:

[H⁺] = 3.98 x 10⁻³ M

[X-281] = 3.98 x 10⁻³ M

[X-281-H] = 0.089 M - 3.98 x 10⁻³M = 0.085 M

At equlibrium, the acidity constant Ka is:

Ka = [X-281] * [H⁺] / [X-281-H]

Ka = (3.98 x 10⁻³ M * 3.98 x 10⁻³ M ) / 0.085 M = 1.86 x 10⁻⁴

Then the pKa is:

pKa = -log Ka = -log (1.86 x 10⁻⁴) = 3.73
