Georgia [21]

Based on the available facts, in the northeast United States, the biggest source of acid rain producing pollutants comes from the burning of coal by power plants to produce electricity.

<h3>What is acid rain?</h3>

Acid rain occurs when gases such as sulfur (iv) oxide and nitrogen oxides which are released from the burning of fossil fuels such as petrol and coal are released into the atmosphere, which then dissolve in rainwater and fall as acid rain.

These gases are known as acid anhydrides because they dissolve in water to produce acids.

In the northeast United States, the biggest source of acid rain producing pollutants comes from the burning of coal by power plants to produce electricity.

A sample of carbon dioxide gas is reduced to 1/3 of its original volume while the pressure is observed to doubleplaced in a cont
masya89 [10]

Answer:

The temperature will change and become 2/3 of its original.

Explanation:

Using Ideal gas equation for same mole of gas as

\frac {{P_1}\times {V_1}}{T_1}=\frac {{P_2}\times {V_2}}{T_2}

Given ,

The volume of the sample gets reduced 1/3 of the original. So,

V₂ = 1/3V₁

The pressure of the sample is doubled of the original. So,

P₂ = 2P₁

Using above equation as:

\frac {{P_1}\times {V_1}}{T_1}=\frac {{P_2}\times {V_2}}{T_2}

\frac {{P_1}\times {V_1}}{T_1}=\frac {{2\times P_1}\times {\frac{1}{3}\times V_1}}{T_2}

T_2=\frac{2}{3}\times T_1

<u>The temperature will change and become 2/3 of its original.</u>
