An advisor to the mayor of a large city wants to estimate, within 3 minutes, the mean travel time to work for all employees who

work within the city limits. He knows that the standard deviation for all travel times is 12.25 minutes. He also wants to achieve a 95% confidence interval. He will poll a random sample of city employees. At least how many employees should he poll?

Answer:

64

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that an advisor to the mayor of a large city wants to estimate, within 3 minutes, the mean travel time to work for all employees who work within the city limits.

Let X be the random variable denoting the time for employees to travel within city limit

Std dev of X = 12.25 minutes

For 95% confidence interval Z critical 1.96 is used because population std dev is known

Margin of error = 1.96*std error = 3 (given)

i.e. 1.96(\frac{12.25}{\sqrt{n} } )=3

where n is the desired sample size.

Simplify to get

\frac{24.01}{\sqrt{n} } =3\\n=64.053

Hence atleast 64 employees should he poll

Are the following triangles similar? Justify your answer.
Ber [7]

Answer:

Yes they are similar.

There are three similarity criteria for triangles.

The first one (AAA) , your case, says that two triangles are similar if their corresponding angles are equal.

The second one (SAS) says that two triangles are similar if two sides have lengths in the same ratio and the angles that are included in these two sides are equal.

The third one (SSS) says that two triangles are similar of all of their sides have lengths in the same ratio.

About the first criteria, you actually need only two corresponding angles to be the same, because the third will always be the difference between 180° and the two angles.

Remember that you CANNOT exceed 180° for the sum of the three angles of a triangle.

And remember also that similarity involves correspondence in sides and angles. Two triangles, with same angles, but mirrored, are not similar!

A piece of thread is 11 12 inches long. Jenny needs to cut the thread into 1 6 -inch segments. How many segments can she cut?
Studentka2010 [4]

Answer:

5.5 segments

Step-by-step explanation:

I am not sure if you meant 11/12 and 1/6 but here's how I solved it.

11/12 ÷ 1/6

11/12*6/1=

66/12 Simplify

5 6/12=5.5
