A hockey puck slides across an ice rink more easily than it does across a rough concrete surface. Why is this?

Biology

There is less friction between the ice and hockey puck. Concrete is generally more textured and rough, therefore creating more friction

Becuase along the concrete, there is friction because it is not smooth.  The ice, on the other hand, is smooth and has much less friction.

levacccp [35]

Answer: Hypothalamus

The brain coordinates the physical changes that occur during puberty and the hypothalamus plays an especially important role in this process.

Explanation:

Since the hypothalamus controls the secretion of hormones from the pituitary gland, and the pituitary gland, also known as master gland, controls the activities of all other glands like the following:

- gonads (ovaries and testes), responsible for producing many of the sex hormones and hence, development of sexual characterictics

- thyroid, responsible for producing thyroxine, responsible for body metabolism and development.

Thus, hypothalamus plays important role in puberty

son4ous [18]
Due to arising conflict in self-image and others.

Joe, a hiker, stands at the top of a hill on a trail above the ocean. Joe's friend Dave is just starting out at the trailhead, w
Rashid [163]

Answer: 1, 2, 4 are accurate.

Explanation:

1. Joe is on a hill (on a trail) above the ocean. The beach and ocean are at similar altitudes. Therefore Joe is at a higher altitude than if he was at the beach.

2. Since Joe is on a hill, he has a higher altitude than at sea level. Air at a higher altitude has lower density because there is less air "ontop" of itself than at lower altitudes. As well, his hill is above the ocean, which means there is a lot of water, making the air more humid than where he is. Humidity also makes air denser.

4.The air pressure will decrease if Joe goes up to higher altitudes because there will be less air on top of itself.
