Jenny is working on a laptop computer and has notices that the computer is not running very fast. She looks and realizes that th
e laptop is supports 8 GB's of RAM and that the computer is only running 4 GB's or RAM. Jenny would like to add 4 more GBs of RAM. She opens the computer and finds that there is an open slot for RAM. She checks the other module and determines that the module has 204 pins. What module should Jenny order?
SO-DIMM stands for (Small Outline Dual In-line Memory) and is the laptop version of the RAM used on desktop computers. These modules are smaller than the ones used on a desktop PC and therefore have less pins than the PC versions (204 vs 240).
Usually the amount of RAM found on a laptop is smaller than the one found on a desktop PC because of the size of the motherboards. Generally on a normal computer you can add up to 4 RAM modules instead of the 2 modules that are generally found on a laptop PC.
A 204 pin used in laptops is DDR3 in contrast to a 240 DDR3 used in desktops. it ranges between 2.5 to 3 inches in size.
To check what size the computer RAM is , simply open the task manager , click on the performance tab, then memory tab. you will see the memory installed on the system. Upgrading the computer from 4GB to 8GB will give the laptop computer a significant boost
