Geographers need to use visuals because visuals provide full perspective observations while maps are flat and 2D. Think of it as 3D is better than 2D.

Answer:

The person who deals with the study of geography is known as the geographer. It is very important for geographers to visualize the the subject. The images allows the viewer to create the subject more clear and accessible. The maps are the 2 dimensional representation of the earth and are very widely used but it provides data only regarding the surface of the earth. So in order to have a more clear picture of the features and structures present on earth, one must have the skill or ability to look at a subject (picture), understand it and interprete it that how it has formed and evolved.

This is the reason why geographers are needed to visualize other than the use of maps.
