For example if you had 2/3 and 2/4 then the lowest number that both 3 and 4 divide into is 12. So to get the numerator divide 12 by 2 and 4. Now times the original numerator by the number it that you got from the denominator dividing into 12. This gives you 8/12 and 6/12. Add these together and it gives you 14/12
